BEGINNER GUIDE

Mistfall Hunter Beginner Guide

A dark-fantasy extraction RPG where the real skill is knowing when to leave. Here's how the loop works and what to do in your first hours.

The core loop

You drop into the Gyldenmist as a revived Gyldhunter. Your job: scavenge loot, hunt monsters (and rival hunters), then reach an extraction point and escape with your haul. Progress comes from what you bring back to your camp at Windrest — every run is a risk because death strips you of everything you carried that expedition.

How extraction works

Extraction is the heartbeat of the game. When a Returning Chime appears, interact with it and follow the marker to the extraction point. Reach a Returner Woodling, ring the extraction bell (hold the extract input), survive the channel without being interrupted, and you are pulled back to camp with your loot secured.

The six classes

Each class has its own kit and two weapon stances you can swap mid-fight:

New player tip: start with Mercenary. High health, a shield, and crowd-control breathing room let you learn map layouts and extraction timing without instant punishment. The basic rhythm is "block — counter — build Sword Tip — extract."

Solo vs squad play

Expeditions support solo hunters or three-player squads with full crossplay across PC, PS5, and Xbox. A squad shares the risk and the loot route: one player scouts, one holds the bell, one covers the rear. Solo is quieter and keeps all the loot to yourself, but you have no one to watch your back during a channel. Matchmaking at launch ran up to five teams of three per session.

First mistakes to avoid

  1. Greeding the last chest. When the mist starts collapsing, the exit gets crowded. Extract early rather than gamble for one more drop.
  2. Hoarding your best gear. Use your strongest kit in the run — but keep irreplaceable materials in your Keychain/Pip Pouch.
  3. Slow looting, no exit plan. Prioritize golden Treasure Zones near your spawn; speed in, speed out.
  4. Skipping the camp. Camp upgrades are permanent; gear is consumable. Invest in the camp before buying expensive loot.
  5. Forgetting the Smuggler. A Smuggler Woodling is an emergency extract — it takes only your equipped gear plus a chosen item, dropping the rest.

Before you start

Make sure your machine clears the bar — see the System Requirements page. Then drop in, learn one map, and extract with something. Surviving the mist teaches more than any loadout guide.
